IMPORTANT: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO COME CURLING THIS WEEK!

Curlers,

Here we are on the eve of curling season! Twenty months without curling is a long time and boy we can’t wait to get back out there. We have put together the following checklist you can work through as you get ready to hit the ice!

1) Find out what team you are on, what time you play, and who’s on your team

Schedules are available on our league pages which can be accessed through our website under the schedules menu. You can also find out what team you are on through your league page. Our conveners are working hard to get teams and schedules posted as soon as possible so if they aren’t there just yet, fear not, they will be there.

2) Wear your mask

Don’t forget you will need your mask to enter the Centre. Masks are required to be worn at all times moving throughout the Centre. You don’t need to wear your mask once you get on the ice, but you can if you want to. Masks can be removed when enjoying a beverage or snack after your game.

3) Bring your QR code: Screening process at the front door

You will all have got a QR code that is unique to you over the weekend in your email (subject line: CurlON's contact tracing APP). You can store the QR code on your phone, or print it off. You will have to scan this QR code at the Centre to check in. Please enter the Centre through the front door to check in. We need to make sure everyone checks in for contact tracing purposes.

4) Bring your vaccine certification (if you haven’t already)

Thank you to all that came out to our vaccine verification nights. If you were not able to make it out, or if you haven’t made arrangements for us to verify you, please bring your vaccine certificate and your government photo ID with you. You will not be able to enter the facility until we have checked this!

5) Come ready with your curling gear on 15 minutes before your draw time

To make sure we can maintain our capacity limits in the locker rooms, please come in your curling gear ready to play. Upon arrival, after check-in, please proceed down to the locker rooms to take off your outdoor shoes and put on your curling shoes (or clean running shoes).  The lockers are available to use for coats and personal belongings. Don’t forget your broom if you have one. If not, borrow one of our brooms! (Just don’t forget to sanitize it once you are done with it!)

6) Review our Return to Play Playbook

For the most up-to-date Covid-19 safety measures, be sure to review our playbook.

7) Reconnect with old friends and make some new ones

We have reconfigured our lounge to maximize physical distancing. We are asking everyone to keep one team per table but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a big socially distant circle to socialize with your opponents. To make sure we are sticking to our capacity limits and maintaining social distancing, we are asking that teams that play on C and D take advantage of our spruced-up upstairs lounge. Teams that play on A and B can stay downstairs.

We also are very sad to say that for the time being, Heather will not be offering her famous Heather curling centre dinners. There will be some snacks available, but no meal options. We are also sticking to bottles/cans/tallboys for the time being.

8) Leaving the centre

New this year, we will be using the back doors to exit the building.  Because of this, please be sure to pay attention to the signs indicating the correct lanes to walk in when exiting with your outdoor footwear. This is to ensure the playing surface and your curling shoes stay spic and span. Help us minimize the number of picked rocks this season!

9) Consider giving back

As a Centre, we rely heavily on our volunteers to help us run our programming. We have an amazing, sold-out, Learn to Curl program that is looking for a few more instructors, especially for our Sunday morning session. If you are able to give an hour or two to this program, please contact Carlos Gregorio at borne2curl@gmail.com.

10) Ask us questions

Have any questions or concerns about returning to the ice? Let us know at curl@woodstockcurling.com

Finally, we want to thank you all so much for joining us this season. It really is going to be the best curling season yet. We know if we all work together and follow the safety measures that have been put in place we can make sure the legacy of curling in Woodstock lives on!

Good curling everyone!
